BRETT DE HOEDT

Trainer Brett de Hoedt was a journalist, broadcaster and publicist for 3AK, Truth, New Idea, Sunday Age, 3MP, and the Seven Network before establishing marketing and communications agency Hootville Communications in 1999.

His first client was Paralympian swimmer Priya Cooper who scored a wave of media attention in the Sydney 2000 frenzy. No brief was ever again so simple.

600 clients later Brett has worked with WWF, Australian Conservation Foundation, CommBank, Yooralla, City of Melbourne, Netball Australia, Australian Red Cross, YMCA, Leading Age Services Australia, Australian Swim Team, Berry Street, Vicsport and Oxfam. He also works with tiny volunteer run organisations and local governments.

Brett doesn’t help promote perfumes and Spring Racing Carnival marquees but he has helped create marketing campaigns on issues including climate change, euthanasia, breastfeeding, police shooting of people with mental illness, sexual slavery, TAFE education, funding of age services and more.

Brett’s marketing advice has created over 1000 media hits, placed mobile billboards outside the electorate offices of our politicians, seen national campaigns demand greater funds for nursing homes, screened national television commercials and clients speak to Parliaments.

Unlike some marketers, Brett shamelessly recommends whatever marketing option works, whether that be hitting social media or hitting the local High Street on a Saturday morning.

Brett is a hell of a trainer – energetic, challenging, practical. His reviews speak for themselves.

Brett’s presentation skills saw him selected to keynote about using media and other marketing options to press for climate action at Al Gore’s Climate Reality Training Corp event in 2014.
